Connecting Light's courses are based on a form of the Tera Mai™ Reiki

Dr. Mikao Usui & the History of Reiki

Born in 1865 in Japan, Dr. Usui received his schooling at a buddhist monastery. He had an avid interest in learning and worked hard at his studies. He travelled to Europe and China to further his education. His curriculum included medicine, psychology and religion as well as fortune telling, which Asians have long considered to be a worthy skill.

There is still confusion over how he started his line of healing. Some stories say that he went into the mountains, fasted and meditated for 21 days, during which he received a vision. Others say that he was taught this knowledge from ancient Sanskrit writings.

The TJR System - Traditional Japanese Reiki - says that his method is based on traditional Chinese medicine, a method laid out in the Yellow Emperor’s Classics Ling Shu, Su Wen and Nan Jing. This uses a number of meridians and channels that carry the energy around the body once every 24 hours. The flow of energy through these pathways may be influenced by means of both external methods (acupuncture and projected energy, for example) and internal methods such as meditation. Usui’s system uses the hand to project energy into the recipient’s energy pathways.

After the Reiki one initiation, the energy flows directly from the initiate’s hands into the body of the recipient of a healing. Channelling energy into the energetic pathways, especially the main centres, which are called chakras, can send the energy around the body to various organs and systems. Mikao Usui set up a group called the Usui Shiki Ryoho in Tokyo, where he trained healers and teachers. Through this group, many teachers have been trained in Japan. Dr. Usui died in 1926. On his tomb are written the Reiki Principles, which are important to understand and integrate in the practice of Reiki.

Tera Mai™ Reiki and Seichem History

Kathleen Ann Milner received her master-teacher training in 1989. She also received a Seichem initiation which, at that time, was a different line of healing.

Under the direction of her spirit guides and Sai Baba, Kathleen brought these two lines together under the title of Tera Mai™. As well as having the original Reiki healing energies, corresponding to the element of Earth, Tera Mai™ also has the Seichem initiations, which add the healing energies of Fire, Air and Water. These can be passed on by a trained Seichem master-teacher.

In Tera Mai™, other powerful symbols have been added to the three traditional Reiki symbols, some shown to Kathleen personally, and the rest channelled by other masters around the world (included in the level 2 and 3 manuals). This form of attunement procedure, based on the traditional and the additional symbols, has been felt by many as “stronger”, connecting initiates to a larger spectrum of energies and therefore increasing their healing abilities (it however includes the full traditional spectrum of Reiki energy).

Golden Dragon History

On the 6 th of August 2000, Diana Angel and John Cosgrove also restarted the Healing Order of the Golden Dragon, an ancient aspect of Reiki, connected to the Earth and to its crystals and minerals, which died out 1,800 years ago in France.
